New York City was glorious today.
Both inside the studio where my yoga teacher training is taking place, and outside where life continues. Just look at that sky, unfiltered, untouched. All nature’s doing.
During our lunch break this afternoon, I walked outside for a breath of air and happened to look up.
Something about this handsome-looking building stopped me in my tracks. Hmm, I thought. I never noticed that building before. Though I walk past the building everyday.
Because I never looked up.
I wanted a closer look, so I moved to get a better angle.
An even closer look.
That’s when I heard someone say behind me, “That is a beautiful building!” I turned around and saw a woman, in sunglasses and ravishing white hair, gazing up at the building with me.
“I never noticed it before,” she said. “I looked up for the first time when I saw you taking a picture.”
I nodded and admitted I’d just seen the building for the first time as well. There we were, in the middle of Thursday afternoon city traffic, enjoying an unexpected moment of serenity.
A few moments later, the woman touched my arm, and thanked me.
Enjoy, she said.
And I went back to the yoga studio, a secret smile inside.
It was a good day.

I love it when I look up! I work downtown and molehill my way to work without making any eye contact. This is mostly because I don’t leave any time in my day for a casual stroll.
Must.look.up.
Your city’s so gorgeous. I visited when I was eight (or something close), and it’s one of the places I most want to visit as an adult. Especially now that I know you’re there.
